My husband and I live in a country setting in Nerepis, New
Brunswick. We have 130 acres full of trails, streams, a pond and
borders on the Nerepis River which is a Ducks Unlimited preserved
area for all of us to enjoy.
The dogs are very much a part of the family and live in the
house. Breeding Bernese is not a business for me, it is a hobby
and passion. I've had Berners in my life since purchasing my
first girl from Eve Menegoz in 1991. I enjoy showing in
conformation as well as teaching, training and trialing in
obedience and draft.
Drafting shows the breed can do some of what they were bred to do
as does obedience, both sports are working as a team with me.

I've held executive positions with the NBKC
and the BMDCC for a number of years. I am currently the BMDCC
President and the CKC Draft Dog Rep for our zone as well.
One of my best friends and a co-breeder and a very important,
integral part of our success in and out of the whelping box is
Bonnie Galbraith. Together we are Backcountry Bernese now. She
has worked tirelessly educating herself within the breed as well
as outside the breed. Bonnie has owned Bernese for over ten years
now. Before that, her family owned Golden Retrievers which she
enjoyed training in obedience and agility. She also remains
current in many Bernese related activities and is presently
working towards becoming a Draft Dog judge. Her primary passion
lies with showing dogs, which Bonnie now does professionally
under her business name "Better Behavior Canine
Training".
Bonnie currently lives just outside of Shediac, New Brunswick,
approximately two hours away from here. Her property backs onto
20 acres of apple tree trails and a pond for the dogs to enjoy
hikes and swimming.
In addition to the clubs listed above, Bonnie holds a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Biology and Psychology. She is also a member of
the Moncton Kennel Club and the Canadian Professional Handlers
Association. She is on the executive for the BMDCC, serving as
the Atlantic Director.

Our goals in breeding Bernese are simple but not so easy to
attain- A healthy, long lived, sweet Bernese that exemplifies the
standard. We are very committed to trying to improve the health
and longevity of this wonderful breed. You will see in our
breeding program that health is a priority from the extensive
clearances that we do as well as the pedigrees and clearances of
those we choose for our girls.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our virtual home and if you get
the chance to come and visit us in person, please do.
